Components of the railway heating systems

The other components of the railway heating systems are:

  • Transducers: two types of devices are applicable. The first type are the weather transducers, used for meteorological measurements: air temperature, wind speed, rain detection (moisture sensors), snow detection (dirt-resistant sensors). The second type are dedicated to the process of heating: cold rail temperature, heated rail temperature or the drifted snow detection on turnouts.
  • Transformers: separate a contact line from the power grid.Transformers types: 230V/230V of 2,5kVA power, 3,8kVA and 4,6kVA,  400V/230V of 2,5kVA power, 3,8kVA and 4,6kVA, 230V/24V of 0,25kVA (power supply of point lock heaters), 400V/24V of 0,25kVA (power supply of point lock heaters).
  • Junction boxes: are used to extend wires of the electric heating of turnouts’ devices. They are easy mounted on turnouts. Depending on the type of a junction box 4, 8 or 10 wires having diameter between 6 mm and 12 mm can be used. Junction boxes are equipped with spring connectors for connecting wires between the active and compensatory heaters installed at turnouts.
  • Spring clips: the first type of clips is designed to mount a heating element at turnouts while the second are the anti-crawl clips  designed to prevent the movement of a heating element. Clips are made of spring steel and are easy to install and dismantle.
